The Banquet

                                                      The film itself
Generally speaking, <The banquet> has got a fairly acceptable and readble storyline. However, after viewing the 2-hours- long film, what impress me most is the fancy costume design, exquisite makeup, catchy and engaging sound effects (including the scores, the songs, the tunes and the ditties) , the white mask and delicate dance acted by the Crown prince and Qing, the backdrop, stuff like that, instead of the remarkably illustrous casting.

As to the controversial lines, I don't think it's ridiculous at all. On the contrary, it's the beauty of drama. It's widely knowned that this film is an adapted screenplay, which is originated from William Shakespear's wirdspread and well-known tragedy <Hamlet>, though it far from beating the original one. In that sense, this film just roughly resembled the framework and outline of <Hamlet>, however, the core spirit is hard to follow and duplicate. Hence, <The Banquet>is just a replica or miniature of <Hamlet>. Personally, I figure, it could be a well-attended drama if it is put on theater instead of movie theather, as this sort of film merely applies to those who obtain some fundamental understanding of English drama rather than the ordinary people who are more inclined to appreciate the best-selling comedies originated by director Feng.

I always wonder why our Chinese so-called greatest film directors go to great lengths to win an international award, either Oscar, Canns, Venice or Montreal. Do they really need a prize to honor their titles? How come they go all out to cater for international jury rather than massive audience, regardless of sky-high investment in filmmaking process. That's ridiculous indeed.

                                                                       The casting

When it comes to the fantastic casting, this film attracts most popular acters and actresses ever in Mainland and Hong Kong. However, what is the effect of it ? Does it draw much more attention from both the mass media and audience or prompt another round of debate over their acting skills? For me, most of them, like Zhouxiu, Danille Wu, are just mediocre, they acted normally as they were. As for Ge, though he seldom acts the role of emperor, I think he tried hard to act it well with a little bit bizzare tone. As to Ziyi Zhang, I don't like her at all ever since I've known her on the big screen. I still wonder how she could rise to fame so rapidly. From my perspective, she overacted too much in her role, we could sense that she put too much effort to work it out.Her gleam overshadowed the others. The best part she played in this film is the moment she was stabbed on the back by a dagger from the unknown, she turned around and took aback. I don't like her voice and tones either. She always gives too much strength to project the lines or even the single word. I think she could never act as spontaneously as Gongli did in the years to come.

The Da Vinci Code is coming to town eventually

 The breath-taking, thought-provoking,mind-boggling,spine-chilling,overwhelming, fasinating...

Whatsoever, it's hard to describe this very piece of work by exact words. Just go out to the cinema nearby and give it a shot!! Like a real visual and spiritual adventure.

Reflection

Some time in our lives, we have to slow down our marching steps to look back towards our footprints and trails, which we left as we went all the way towards our target.

Here I am. I often regret what I did. For me, I always bend over backward to be good, however it turns out to be opposite. How ironic life is. Occasionally, the more endeavor you put, the worse outcome it could be. There is no definite gains in the entire lifetime.

As I said before, I'm far too dreamy, so dreamy that I even neglect the reality. For quite a while, I live in my own wonderland-the so-called ivory tower, holding my innocent imagination, leaving the real world behind. How stupid I am.

Down-to-earth, it's easier said than done. However, it is what I'm supposed to do at this moment. I hope someone would understand what I am talking about.
